Celebrate Sami National Day ~ Sámi álbmotbeaivi
This year is the 100th anniversary of the first general meeting of Sami people gathering across national Nordic country borders to discuss common interests. The meeting took place in Trondheim, Norway on February 6, 1917. Sami National Day commemorates that meeting each year on February 6th with wearing of gakti, special concerts and cultural events, and displaying the Sami flag.
The Sami Cultural Center will continue our tradition of celebrating Sami National Day with an open house and special programing.
Artist and writer Katharine Johnson will present a special program The Life and Work of Sami Writer and Activist Elsa Laula Renberg (1877-1937). Elsa was one of the primary organizers of the Sami congress in 1917.
